AGENDA ITEM: CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RECOMMENDATION TO NAME THE RING
ROAD.
DISCUSSION: Historv: For more than a decade, the City ahs contemplated the construction of a
ring road to improve access in the Priordale Mall commercial area. The ring road
connects Franklin Trail to State Highway 13 (see attached alignment map). The
first segment of the roadway was constructed from Franklin Trail to Toronto when
Park Nicollet Clinic was constructed. The City is now in the process of completing
construction of the roadway. Completion is expected within 60 days. Accordingly,
the ring road should be named for addressing purposes.
Current Circumstances: The City Council has appointed Councilmembers
Blomberg and Zieska to the Naming Committee in accordance with the Naming
Policy. The committee has met to discuss various names and has solicited City
staff input on the subject. Three possible names have been considered
acceptable by the Committee. They are:
. Crystal Lake Drive
. Village South Drive
. South Lake Drive
Crystal Lake Drive is a geographic reference to the fact that a portion of the road
is in the vicinity of Crystal Lake. Village Lake Drive is intended to underscore the
new name for Priordale Mall (to be known as South Lake Village) and the new
grocery store is will house (Village Market). South Lake Drive has no specific
geographic reference.
Conclusion: The Committee was divided between Crystal Lake Drive and Village
Lake Drive. The Council should consider these options and select a name for the
Ring Road.
