CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
16200 Eagle Creek Avenue S.E.
Prior Lake, MN 55372-1714
November 1, 2004
SB
Frank Boyles, City Manager
PRESENTATION TO RETIRING ADVISORY BODY MEMBERS: (1) MARGI
ATWOOD, PLANNING COMMISSION; AND (2) LORI HELGESTAD, PARKS
ADVISORY COMMITTEE.
Advisory bodies are a critical part of Prior Lake City Government. They
determine how effective our organization is in accomplishing its responsibilities
by performing some very important tasks. It is therefore critical that advisory
body members are diligent in the performance of their responsibilities.
Prior Lake is losing two such individuals from our advisory bodies. Both have
resigned from their positions effective November 1, 2004. Tonight we would like
to recognize each of them.
Margi Atwood has been a member of the Prior Lake Planning Commission since
2000. During her time on the planning commission she has displayed a keen
desire to balance community and individual interests. She is no stranger to the
strain which development can create on a neighborhood since her first
involvement with the City was as a neighbor concerned about the Deerfield
development. She has performed her roles as Planning Commissioner
admirably. We appreciate her many contributions and wish her well in the future.
Lori Helgestad has been a Parks Advisory Committee member for 3 years. Lori is
an avid bicycler, tennis player, and cross-country skier. Lori and her husband
moved to Prior Lake in 2001 partly because of the recreation opportunities and
the rural setting that the community offered. Her interest in serving the Park
Advisory Committee was a result of her desire to see park and natural areas
preserved, and appropriate recreation areas provided as the community
continued to grow. Lori has served on the PAC during some important decisions
including the dance studio privatization, Skate Park construction, and now the
comprehensive plan update. Lori is resigning to devote her energies to other
tasks.
The Mayor will present a plague to each retiring committee member.
