HomeMy WebLinkAbout5B - Tri-City Response Team CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT DECEMBER 6, 2004 SB BILL O'ROURKE, CHIEF OF POLICE AGENDA ITEM: CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING DISPERSAL OF AN SMSC CONTRIBUTION TO THE CITIES OF SAVAGE AND SHAKOPEE FOR TRI-CITY RESPONSE TEAM EQUIPMENT PURCHASES. DISCUSSION: Historv: At the April 5, 2004 Council Meeting the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community presented a check in the amount of $15,000 to the Tri-City Response team for the purchase of bulletproof vests and ballistic helmets. That contribution represented a 50% match for the purchase of those items. The money was placed into the General Fund of the City of Prior Lake until such time as the invoices were received. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Current Circumstances: The equipment has been received and the three departments have been invoiced for the purchase. This resolution authorizes the distribution of $5,000 to the cities of Savage and Shakopee for payment of the items purchased with the matching grant. The is no financial impact regarding the distribution of the contribution. The remainder of the money to pay for the City of Prior Lakes equipment was part of the 2004 operating budget for the Police Department. ALTERNATIVES: (1) Approve the resolution and distribution of funds. (2) Take no action and provide staffwith direction. (952) 447-4230 / Fax (952) 447-4245 AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER <ltINNESO~~ A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING DISTRIBUTION OF A $15,000 CONTRIBUTION RECEIVED FROM THE SMSC TO BE EQUALLY SHARED BY THE CITY'S OF PRIOR LAKE, SAVAGE AND SHAKOPEE RESOLUTION 04-XX MOTION BY: SECOND BY: WHEREAS, the City's of Savage, Shakopee and Prior Lake have established the Tri-City Tactical Team, and WHEREAS, equipment required by the team to perform it's responsibilities is estimated to exceed $30,000.00, and WHEREAS, the Shakopee Mdewankaton Sioux Community has agreed to donate $15,000.00 equally to the three communities to assist in the necessary equipment purchases, and WHEREAS, the $15,000 is to be distributed equally to the three cities upon invoice for the equipment. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE, MINNESOTA as follows: 1. The recitals set forth above are incorporated herein. 2. Each of the city's have been invoiced for the equipment purchase. 3. The City Manager is herby directed to disperse checks in the amount of $5,000 each to the City's of Savage and Shakopee.
