The footing soils were suspected of containing organic matter. Upon inspection the soil was gray silty clay with no organic content. Soils within the proposed build area were moist but below optimum moisture, and consisted primarily of a sandy clay loam. To assess the strength of the soils, a 518th inch diameter smooth probe was used to penetrate the upper footing base. With full body weight applied, the probes indicated penetration (4"), consistent with soils of high bearing capacity, increasing in strength at depth In our opinion the observed and tested sub-grade soils are acceptable, and would be expected to meet an assumed minimum bearing capacity requirement of 2000 PSF, for the proposed construction. Both the onsite crew and Troy of Key Land Homes were given approval to finish the pour at the time of inspection. Our observations and subsequent soil evaluation is limited in scope to soil conditions observed within the foundation excavation, and to the depths achieved by shallow probes. Therefore, we are unable to assess sub-grade soils, which may be encountered by borings conducted as part of a standard subsurface geotechnical investigation.
