The exception was the south 30'of the building. Topsoil was observed in the footing trench and subsequent hand auger borings initiated 3.5'of fill overlying topsoil at the south end of the building. Based on our observation and shallow hand auger borings we recommended the old fill and topsoil be excavated to expose natural lean clay. After the natural lean clay is exposed, the excavated old fill can be sorted and the nonorganic elements reused as engineered fill.
