HomeMy WebLinkAbout10 20 2014 EDA Report 8CPRIp\ U , 4646 Dakota Street SE Prior Lake, MN 55372 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY AGENDA REPORT MEETING DATE: October 20, 2014 AGENDA #: 8C PREPARED BY: Dan Rogness, Community & Economic Development Director AGENDA ITEM: 2014 ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND 2015 GOALS DISCUSSION: Introduction The purpose of this agenda item is to approve the top three 2014 accomplish- ments and 2015 goals. History Each year in November, a City Council Work Session is devoted to a review of all annual past accomplishments and future goals by the city's boards and commis- sions. This year, that meeting will be held on Monday, November 24; therefore, the EDA is being asked to review its list in October. Current Circumstances Attachment 1 shows the three 2013 accomplishements and three 2014 goals that were presented to the City Council last year. Staff is proposing the following three 2014 accomplishments: 1. Initiated a downtown parking analysis, including a successful matching grant award from the Scott County CDA. 2. Supported the first successful business launch from Technology Village with ICP moving into privately leased office space as part of Phase 11. 3. Supported acquisition of downtown parcel to land -bank for future redevel- opment opportunity, using existing TIF fund balance. Staff is proposing the following three 2015 goals: 1. Provide a lead role in locally implementing SCALE's Customer Service Strategy Plan, coordinated through the First Stop Shop. 2. Support Phase 11.2 of the Technology Village Business Plan to increase business use in City Hall and in other office locations. 3. Evaluate implementation steps necessary to support conclusions provided in the Downtown Parking Analysis. ISSUES: The EDA's Business Plan includes six strategy areas, including broadband, Tech- nology Village, targeted development areas, city codes/fees, marketing and costomer centric culture. The proposed 2015 goals help achieve accomplish- ments in many of these areas. FINANCIAL The EDA's investments help grow jobs, businesses and tax base in Prior Lake as IMPACT: key outcomes for local economic development. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Motion and a second to approve staff's proposed list of top EDA 2014 ac- complishments and 2015 goals, as may be further amended by the EDA. 2.
