MAYOR HAUGEN AND CITY COUNCILMEMBERS
June 3~d City Council Work Session
A work session is scheduled for 5:30pm, Monday, June 3r" at the Fire Station. The purpose of the
workshop is to become familiar with a 10-minute video presentation which is being prepared for the
City by Mike Edwards and his firm, Curiosity Productions. Attached for your information is a proposal
from Curiosity Productions clarifying the intent of the piece and outlining the steps they will be taking to
prepare this video.
The purpose of the workshop is to solicit City Council input on the following:
· Goals of the video (see second and third bullets in the proposal)
· Target audiences
· Identify spokespersons - 3-to-4 maximum
· Identify events, places, people or things to showcase in the video
· Select a Council representative to work with staff.
I have attached draft lists prepared by staff regarding items 2-4. The staff would like to receive City
Council input on all five agenda items. Following the workshop, a script will be provided for City Council
input. Next, a "rough cut" of the script and video is prepared for final input. The final product will be
completed this fall because of the events we wish to incorporate in the video.
The workshop will be concluded by 7pm since at least two parties will want to address the Council at its
Public Forum.

Frank:
Thank you for your time and interest in our services. It was good to meet with you and
Don Rye to discuss your video needs.
Here is our proposal. Curiosity Productions will provide the following:
· We will meet with the full City council June 3rd to hear their needs.
· The general goals of the video are to retain existing business, and encourage new ~
businesses to locate in Prior Lake, to encourage current residents of Prior Lake who
have their businesses in other communities to possiblY relocate their business in Prior
Lake.
· The other general goal of the video is to emphasize the strength and beauty of the"
community including its cultural, social and recreational benefits and character.
· We will meet with either chosen representatives of the City Council or the entire
Council in order to hear their input for direction, history and more explicit content of
the video.
· Curiosity Productions, with the in-put of your people, will write an 8-minute scrip, t, ~
containing the expressed needed content. ~,~,~, z~,,,.',~ ~, ~--,~-~-~'~'q. ~9.~
· We will return the script to the designated person or persons for review, and approval.
At this point you will not only see the script but also the matching shots that
accompany the words. You may make any necessary corrections and adjustments.
· We will then go into the community and shoot the shots necessary, with the
assistance of a technical advisor provided. Some of the footage already
recommended includes Thomas Ryan Memorial Park dedication in June, Lake Front
Days in August and a Pow Wow (date to be determined). Other footage includes
perhaps four Prior Lake Spokespeople.
· We will then remm a "Rough Cut" of the video. You will again have the oppommity
here to make any necessary additions, subtractions or corrections. It should be
understood that this is intended to correct any factual inaccuracies of content.
· Upon Approval of the "rough cut" we will then complete the video by adding final
graphics and music.
· We will then remm the "finished" completed video on the Mastered Beta SP and two
vhs copies. Any further dubs in selected formats will be considered separately.
· Curiosity Productions will provide research, writing, video production, narration, and
editing. Prior Lake should understand, that while we completely welcome input and
assistance, you will have three opportunities to provide input and corrections: 1)
during the initial brainstorm sessions with City Council, 2) during and after initial
script writing, and 3) when "rough cut" is provided. Any changes made after
finished edit and video is provided, there will be additional charges according to
need.
· TOTAL COST TO PRIOR LAKE: $14,975.
· Any Arial shots requested will be at additional charges to be determinet~
· TERMS: 1/3m~ Payable after initial council meeting in June, 1/3ra payable when
"rough cut" is provided, final payment when finished video is delivered.
Frank, I hope this meets with your approval. Please sign and return one copy. Keep one
for your files. If you have any questions, please give me a call.
We welcome the oppommity to work with you and Don on this project. Thank you for
your consideration.
~incerely, ~t
