CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION APPROVING A
STREET NAME CHANGE FOR DEERFIELD CIRCLE IN THE
PLAT OF DEERFIELD INDUSTRIAL PARK
DISCUSSION:
Historv: On August 16, 2004, the City Council adopted Resolution
04-125 approving the final plat for Deerfield Industrial Park. This
final plat included a cul-de-sac, named Deerfield Circle. When the
staff began to issue addresses for this final plat, we discovered the
name, Deerfield Circle, was already a street in the Deerfield residential
development. For health and safety purposes, there cannot be 2
duplicate streets; therefore, the street name in Deerfield Industrial Park
must be renamed.
Current Circumstances: The staff contacted the developer about
renaming the street. The developer selected Granite Court as the new
name. This is a unique name to the City street system.
Issues: Duplication of street names can make it difficult to locate an
address, especially for public safety vehicles in an emergency situation.
Unfortunately, staff did not notice the duplication until issuing
addresses for Deerfield Industrial Park. In order to correct this
problem prior to the issuance of any building permits, we are
requesting the City Council adopt a resolution changing the name of
Deerfield Circle, as platted in Deerfield Industrial Park, to Granite
Court. This change does not affect any existing buildings.
Conclusion: The change in the street name will result in the
elimination of a duplicate street name, and avoid future confusion.
The staff therefore recommends approval of this change.
FISCAL IMPACTS:
Approval of this street name change will have no fiscal impact.
ALTERNATIVES:
The City Council has three alternatives:

MOTION:
REVIEWED BY:
1. Adopt the resolution changing the name of Deerfield Circle to
Granite Court.
2. Deny the resolution changing the street name.
3. Defer action on this item and provide staff with specific direction.
Staff recommends Alternative 1. This requires the following motion:
A motion and second approving a resolution changing the name of
Deerfield Circle as platted in the Deerfield Industrial Park to Granite
Court.

RESOLUTION OF THE PRIOR LAKE CITY COUNCIL
RENAMING DEERFIELD CIRCLE AS PLATTED IN DEERFIELD INDUSTRIAL PARK TO GRANITE COURT

WHEREAS:
The Prior Lake City Council has approved the final plat known as Deerfield Industrial Park, which
includes the right-of-way for Deerfield Circle; and
WHEREAS:
A Deerfield Circle already exists in the Deerfield Residential development; and
WHEREAS:
For public health and safety reasons, the two streets should have two separate names; and
WHEREAS:
There are no existing buildings fronting on Deerfield Circle in the Deerfield Industrial Park; and
WHEREAS:
Changing the name of Deerfield Circle in Deerfield Industrial Park to Granite Court will not have a
detrimental effect on the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PRIOR LAKE,
MINNESOTA, that:
1. The recitals set forth above are incorporated herein as if fully set forth.
2. The City Council hereby approves changing the name of Deerfield Circle in Deerfield Industrial Park to Granite Court.
Passed and adopted this 22nd day of February, 2005.
