Engineering Reports Required
The two level addition proposed for the above residence covers approximately 230 square feet. It will be
on the southwest corner of the house behind the garage. Because the house is not parallel with the lot
line, there are two 17" jogs in the south wall. Both upper and lower levels of the addition will match
existing grade given the current retaining walls and slopes,
Excavation and Fill
Hand augers taken near the project indicate that stiff, dark clay will be encountered, This will not erode
easily_ A large deck now covers the location of the proposed addition and beyond it to the south. This
deck is supported by large timbers (8" x 8") extending from the main level to the lower level. Neither the
timbers nor the deck floor have openings to assess the amount of soil that it will be necessary to
excavate. The maximum can be estimated and there is a manageable slope on the north side of the
house for removing whatever excavation is encountered. Soils work on this project will be limited to this
disposal process and re-seeding damaged lawn areas_
Eliminating Damage
Given the limited area covered by this project and a design that does not alter grades, there will not be
any damage to or obstruction of utilities, drainage facilities, adjacent properties or Prior Lake, With the
use of silt fences there will be no erosion or sedimentation.
Recommendations
When the excavation of the footings is complete, a soils engineer should inspect the trench bottom and
determine the adequacy of the exposed soils. This is the single best time to insure a stable foundation
and in turn a stable structure, It is our opinion that the construction will not compromise any slope or
existing structure.
These observations represent our recommendations for construction based on our trip to the site, the
survey and grading plan of Rehder and Associates and the City of Prior Lake Zoning Ordinances,

RE: Letter of Compliance - Bluff impact assessment

Dear Mr. Kissoon
At your request, a site visit was conducted on February 17, 2005 to
evaluate completed construction at the subject lake shore property,
for compliance with the impact assessment and footing inspection dated
May 9, 2005 and August 21, 2005 respectively.
As planned, the construction had peen completed as a wood frame
addition, utilizing a conventional spread footing foundation, at the
rear southwest corner of the existing residence. Observations
indicated that the addition had not altered existing grades and covers
the general footprint of a deck which it replaces. Measurements
indicated that rear wall of the addition lies approximately 17 feet
from a existing timber retaining wall, which follows the general top
of bluff topography and is constructed at 3 3/4 feet high in the north
and 8 feet in the south.
The residence has been provided with gutters and downspouts to
control surface drainage, with some routed to subgrade feeder tubes.
The downspout at the Southwest corner of the new addition spills
to the surface of the confined soils of the retaining wall, Although
the cohesive soils at depth have low erosion characteristics, the
loamy granular soils observed at the surface the construction area are
prone to erosion. We would therefore recommend th~tLestoration of
this area"wlfhiliEhe construction zone be completed as soon as
possible with landscaping, including appropriate ground cover, and
surface vegetation, This should include consideration for directing
collected rain water from the structure within a broad distribution
pattern to surrounding green areas,
with the noted recommendation, our observations indicate that the
construction complies with the general intent of ordinance 1104.305
for slope stability and surface water control. It is our opinion,
that the observed construction, including erosion control measures are
acceptable and comply with the bluff impact assessment, building
plans, and Prior Lake city codes and zoning ordinances,
