HomeMy WebLinkAbout15-085 Mayors Regional Indicators Initiative Program C.PRip� h U tri 4646 Dakota Street SE 4fitwaso` t* Prior Lake,MN 55372 RESOLUTION 15-085 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE REGIONAL COUNCIL OF MAYORS REGIONAL INDICATORS INITIATIVE PROGRAM Motion By: Hedberg Second By: McGuire WHEREAS, the Regional Council of Mayors ("RCM"), is composed of the mayors of Minneapolis, St. Paul and 47 municipalities in the developed and developing suburbs. This collaborative partnership provides a non-partisan platform focused on building action strategies to raise overall economic competitiveness, accelerate innovation and improve the quality of life in the MSP region; and WHEREAS, the Regional Indicators Initiative supported by RCM collects, analyzes, and makes publically available citywide environmental metrics including energy, water, travel, waste, and greenhouse gas emissions for Minnesota cities; and WHEREAS, the five-year plan for the institutionalization of the Regional Indicators Initiative includes: a peer review of the project's methodology by a third party, the creation of an automated online database to manage the data, the collection of Regional Indicators data for all metropolitan area cities and counties, support for cities in using Regional Indicators data to integrate energy planning into the comprehensive planning process, the establishment of utility repository for community scale energy data, the collection of Regional Indicators data for all cities and counties in the state of Minnesota, and the continued public tracking of Regional Indicator data to measure progress toward city, region, and state-wide goals; and WHEREAS There is, at present, no stable and dependable funding source to assure the continuance of this worthy program. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE, MINNESOTA as follows: 1. The recitals set forth above are incorporated herein. 2. The City Council supports the further development of this program so that cities in the metropolitan area can collect, analyze and make publically available citywide environmental metrics to be used for a variety of decision making purposes. 3. The City Council supports the identification of a stable and dependable non tax based funding source for the Regional Indicators Initiative Program. PASSED AND ADOPTED THIS 11th DAY OF MAY, 2015.
