Product Description
Reliable Models F1 FR and F1 FR Recessed Sprinklers
are quick response sprinklers which combine the dura-
bility of a standard sprinkler with the attractive low profile
of a decorative sprinkler,
The Models F1FR and F1FR Recessed automatic
sprinklers utilize a 3,Omm frangible glass bulb, These
sprinklers have demonstrated response times in labora-
tory tests which are five to ten times faster than standard
response sprinklers, This quick response enables the
Model F1 FR and F1 FR Recessed sprinklers to apply wa-
ter to a fire much faster than standard sprinklers of the
same temperature rating,
The glass bulb consists of an accurately controlled
amount of special fluid hermetically sealed inside a pre-
cisely manufactured glass capsule, This glass bulb is
specially constructed to provide fast thermal response,
The balance of parts are made of brass, copper and be.
ryllium nickel.
At normal temperatures, the glass bulb contains the
fluid in both the liquid and vapor phases, The vapor
phase can be seen as a small bubble. As heat is applied,
the liquid expands, forcing the bubble smaller and
smaller as the liquid pressure increases, Continued
heating forces the liquid to push out against the bulb,
causing the glass to shatter. opening the waterway and
allowing the deflector to distribute the discharging water,
The temperature rating of the sprinkler is identified by
the color of the glass bulb,

Model F1 FR & F1 FR Recessed Quick Response Sprinklers
" Installation
J Quick response sprinklers are intended for installation
as specified in NFPA 13, Quick response sprinklers and
standard response sprinklers should not be intermixed,
The Model F1FR Recessed Quick Response Sprin-
klers are to be installed as shown. The Model F1 or F2 Es-
cutcheons illustrated are the only recessed escutcheons
to be used with the Model F1 FR Sprinklers, The use of
any other recessed escutcheon will void all approvals
and negate all warranties,
When installing Model F1FR Sprinklers use the Model
D Sprinkler Wrench, When installing Model F1FR Re-
cessed Sidewall Sprinklers use the Model GFR1 Sprin-
kler Wrench, Use the Model RC1 Wrench for installing
F1FR Recessed Pendent Sprinklers, Any other type of
wrench may damage these sprinklers.
Maintenance
The Models F1FR and F1FR Recessed Sprinklers
should be inspected quarterly and the sprinkler system
maintained in accordance with NFPA 25. Do not clean
sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia or any other
cleaning fluids, Remove dust by using a soft brush or
gentle vacuuming, Remove any sprinkler which has
been painted (other than factory applied) or damaged in
any way, A stock of spare sprinklers should be main-
tained to allow quick replacement of damaged or oper-
ated sprinklers,

Product Description
Reliable Models F1FR QREC and F1FR QREC Re-
cessed Sprinklers are quick response sprinklers which
combine the durability of a standard sprinkler with the at-
tractive low profile of a decorative sprinkler,
The Models F1FR QREC and F1FR QREC Recessed
Automatic Sprinklers utilize a 3,Omm frangible glass bulb,
These sprinklers have demonstrated response times in
laboratory tests which are five to ten times faster than
standard response sprinklers, This quick response en-
ables these sprinklers to apply water to a fire much faster
than standard sprinklers of the same temperature rating,
The glass bulb consists of an accurately controlled
amount of special fluid hermetically sealed inside a pre-
cisely manufactured glass capsule, This glass bulb is
specially constructed to provide fast thermal response,
The balance of parts are made of brass, copper and be-
ryllium nickel.
The temperature rating of the sprinkler is identified by
the color of the glass bulb.

Installation
Quick response sprinklers are intended for installation
as specified in NFPA 13, Quick response sprinklers and
standard response sprinklers should not be intermixed.
The Model F1FR Recessed QREC Sprinklers are to be
installed as shown. The Model F1 or F2 Escutcheons
illustrated are the only recessed escutcheons to be used
with the Model F1 FR Sprinklers, The use of any other
recessed escutcheon will void all approvals and negate all
warranties,
When installing Model F1 FR QREC Sprinklers use the
Model 0 Sprinkler Wrench, When installing Model F1 FR
QREC Recessed Sidewall Sprinklers use the Model GFR1
Sprinkler Wrench, Use the Model RC1 Wrench for installing
F1 FR QREC Recessed Pendent Sprinklers, Any other type
of wrench may damage these sprinklers,
Maintenance
The Models F1 FA QREC and F1 FA QREC Recessed
Sprinklers should be inspected quarterly and the sprinkler
system maintained in accordance with NFPA 25, Do not
clean sprinklers with soap and water, ammonia or any other
cleaning fluids. Remove dust by using a soft brush or
gentle vacuuming, Remove any sprinkler which has been
painted (other than factory applied) or damaged in any
way, A stock of spare sprinklers should be maintained to
allow quick replacement of damaged or operated
sprinklers,

CORROSION RESISTANCE
Battelle Laboratories of Columbus,
Ohio. an independent testing
laboratory has conservatively
projected that Allied XL Pipe has a
general service life expectancy in
excess of 100 years: that is, you can
expect an Allied XL Pipe sprinkler
system to outlast the service life of
the building it protects, It should be
noted that other independent testing
agencies have concluded that the
oxygen is the main contributing
cause of corrosion in a sprinkler
system.
THREADING FLEXIBILITY
Allied XL Pipe is threaded per
paragraph 3-12.1,2, of NFPA 13
which is applicable to all threaded
sprinkler pipe, This paragraph cites
ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 -1983 as the
standard for threaded pipe and
fittings used in sprinkler systems,
Allied XL Pipe can be used with
approved roll-groove fittings, and
can also be used in conjunction with
weld fittings when using standard
welding equipment.
PHYSICAl.; PROPERTIES
Allied's patented manufacturing
process results in improved grain
structure, superior physical and
chemical characteristics, as well as
superior wall and 0,0. tolerances in
the finished pipe. Allied XL Pipe
maintains a more consistent tensile.
yield and chemical composition as
compared to Schedule 40 pipe,
SUPERIOR HYDRAULICS
Allied XL Pipe offers great
advantages to a hydraulically
designed system, Allied XL Pipe
provides improved hydraulics over
conventional Schedule 40, and
depending on the size of the outer
diameter can have an 18-22%
increase of water flow, This allows
for a potential downsize in pipe
while still providing adequate water
supply in accordance with NFPA 13
guidelines,

The comparatively lighter weight
and adaptability of Allied XL Pipe
makes it ideal for retrofit installation,
Further, its attractive exterior and
fire resistance means it can be

STEP 2 - PACKING MATERiAL: Firmly pack required depth of mineral wooi around the penetrating item as a permanent form. Packing
material shouid be recessed from top surface of fioor or from both surfaces of wail as required to accommodate the required thickness of
Firestop Sealant.
STEP 3 - FIRESTOP SEALANT: Apply the required depth of Firestop Seaiant over the packing material within the annulus. Wail penetrations
require Firestop Sealant installed on both sides. Tool the sealant with a putty knife to push it in place and smooth the surface. Leave compieted
