At normal temperatures, the glass bulb contains the fluid in both the liquid and vapor phases, The vapor phase can be seen as a small bubble. As heat is applied, the liquid expands, forcing the bubble smaller and smaller as the liquid pressure increases, Continued heating forces the liquid to push out against the bulb, causing the glass to shatter. opening the waterway and allowing the deflector to distribute the discharging water, The temperature rating of the sprinkler is identified by the color of the glass bulb, ri ht Pendent .. \ 11'1\ I 1 '), ---""'.-(1'/ ~....'.O~ ~:~ Vertical Sidewall Conventional .,. Used with standard couplings, fittings and valves . Recommended paint finishes can be applied to Allied XL Pipe Cost and Time Savings: . Lower sprinkler system costs . Freight savings . Reduced inventory costs . Reduced waste . No special processes or adhesives required for installation . Standard N.P.T. threading equipment CORROSION RESISTANCE Battelle Laboratories of Columbus, Ohio. an independent testing laboratory has conservatively projected that Allied XL Pipe has a general service life expectancy in excess of 100 years: that is, you can expect an Allied XL Pipe sprinkler system to outlast the service life of the building it protects, It should be noted that other independent testing agencies have concluded that the oxygen is the main contributing cause of corrosion in a sprinkler system. THREADING FLEXIBILITY Allied XL Pipe is threaded per paragraph 3-12.1,2, of NFPA 13 which is applicable to all threaded sprinkler pipe, This paragraph cites ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 -1983 as the standard for threaded pipe and fittings used in sprinkler systems, Allied XL Pipe can be used with approved roll-groove fittings, and can also be used in conjunction with weld fittings when using standard welding equipment. PHYSICAl.; PROPERTIES Allied's patented manufacturing process results in improved grain structure, superior physical and chemical characteristics, as well as superior wall and 0,0. tolerances in the finished pipe. Allied XL Pipe maintains a more consistent tensile. yield and chemical composition as compared to Schedule 40 pipe, SUPERIOR HYDRAULICS Allied XL Pipe offers great advantages to a hydraulically designed system, Allied XL Pipe provides improved hydraulics over conventional Schedule 40, and depending on the size of the outer diameter can have an 18-22% increase of water flow, This allows for a potential downsize in pipe while still providing adequate water supply in accordance with NFPA 13 guidelines, ..... EASY RETROFIT INST AI.;I.;A TION The comparatively lighter weight and adaptability of Allied XL Pipe makes it ideal for retrofit installation, Further, its attractive exterior and fire resistance means it can be installed exposed. It is temperature resistant and has the same capability to withstand mechanical abuse as does other steel pipe Allied XL Pipe is resistant to mechanical damage and can be used under working pressures up to 300 P,S,I. ALLIED XL PIPE MEETS OR EXCEEDS REQUIREMENTS OF THE ASTM-A135. In tests conducted by both the Underwrller's Laboratories and Factory Mutual, Allied's XL Pipe received a Grade A evaluation: . Flexural tests . Hydrostatic leakage & leakage tests . Vibrations tests . Fire tests . Burst tests . Corrosion tests . Chemical analysis . Tensile strength . Flattenability . Hydrostatic performance . Quality of welded seams . Variations in weight or dimensions . Workmanship . Finish . Marking .c_ Allied XL Pipe, a threadable lightweight sprinkler pipe designed to provide a low cost sprinkler system without sacrificing the required service life. Allied XL Pipe is the first sprinkler pipe to receive full Factory Mutual Research approval' and the Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc, "Listing," This product meets NFPA 13 and NFPA 13D and exceeds all ASTM-A 135 requirements, Allied XL Pipe offers more consistent physical and chemical characteristics, and can be used either threaded or unthreaded in wet, dry, preaction or deluge systems having working pressure of 300 P.S.1. or less, Allied XL Pipe conveniently combines the lightweight benefits of Schedule 10 pipe with the threadability advantages of Schedule 40 pipe.., while remaining distinctly unique from both, The esthetically pleasing, clean, galvanized exterior of Allied XL Pipe also offers consistent retrofit appeal.
