PREPARED BY: Casey McCabe, Community Development Specialist AGENDA ITEM: SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGIES DISCUSSION: Introduction The purpose of this agenda item is to discuss what the EDAC can do to help promote local busi- nesses and Prior Lake success stories through social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) History During previous meetings, EDAC members have discussed how to promote economic development news and highlight commercial activity in the community. Current Circumstances The City of Prior Lake has Facebook and Twitter accounts. The EDAC is able to utilize these social networks to provide updates to the community. Committee members should discuss the best meth- ods for sending updates of new, expanding or relocated businesses or other appropriate updates; possibly by sending a request to staff that a specific update be sent out. EDAC members felt that connecting with local business Facebook pages would help committee members stay in contact with local businesses, see what type of marketing is being done through social media and to keep up to date with business activities. The committee may choose to request the commercial area liaisons from each commercial area connect with their businesses via Face- book. Conclusion During the July meeting, EDAC members requested a copy of the City of Prior Lake Strategic Com- munications Plan (attached). The plan provides details about the current communication efforts of the City and the core areas of focus.
