September 6, 2011 Wall Review Date of initial construction of the geosynthetic-reinforced segmental retaining wall #5 was approximately 2006. The original wall was reviewed by Stork Materials Technology in 2009 and 2010. These recommendations and observations indicated several deficiencies with the wall. It was determined that the wall should be reconstructed. Demolition of the wall began on August 23`d 2011. The wall is approximately 280 to 285 feet in length. From the southern end of the wall, the front face grade slopes down along the wall to reveal an approximate maximum exposed height of 9 feet. Braun determined the friction angle for the back fill to be no less than 24°. Using the friction angle provided by Braun, the design for wall #5 was completed by Mortarless Systems Engineering, Inc. The design included an 11.30° gradation away from the back face of the wall and a 75 psf surcharge. Field inspections of materials were made daily by WSB &Associates Inc. The block used for wall #5 was observed to be whole. Cracked block was replaced and removed from the site by the contractor.
