CONSIDER APPROVAL OF CONSULTING ENGINEERING AND
CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT FEES FOR SAND POINT BEACH
PARKING LOT
MARCH 20, 1995
At the March 6 meeting I advised the Council that my notes showed that
the Council had authorized the staff to enter into an agreement with MSA
Consulting for a consultant engineer and construction management
services for the Sand Point Beach Parking Lot. A review of the recording
shows that my notes were in error and it is therefore necessary for the
City Council to approve this item.
We originally estimated that the cost for engineering services to design
Sand Point Beach Parking Lot would be in the range of $6000. Because
of the number of alternatives evaluated and and the challenges presented
by the topography, the cost increased to $13,000. MSA Consulting has
agreed to waive $3000 of this cost and is asking the city to pay the
remaining $10,000 for services rendered.
MSA has also indicated that for a cost not to exceed $6700 they will be
able to provide construction management services for this project.
While there is an increase in' the consulting engineering fees, it is justified
by the amount of work completed. Given the workload for 1995 there is
good rationale for having MSA assume all construction management
responsibilities with respect to this project.
Council has the following alternatives:

Approve the payment of $10,000 to MSA Consulting for
engineering fees for the Sand Point Beach parking lot
project and authorize payment of up to $6700 for
construction management services.
2. Deny this request.
