AUTHORIZING ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS FOR CITY
EQUIPMENT FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, PARKS
DEPARTMENT AND THE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
JUNE 19, 1995
INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of this Agenda item is to consider approval of
Resolution 95-55 to advertise bids for City equipment for the
Fire Department, Parks Department and the Public Works
Department. .
BACKGROUND:
Within the context of the 1995 Capital Improvement Program
(CIP), Council approved the acquisition of the following
equipment:
Fire Department:
-Pumper Fire Truck
$190,000.00
Parks Department:
-60 HP Tractor $ 36,000.00
-Dump Truck with Plow, $ 65,000.00
Wing, Box and Sander
-16' Turf Mower $ 67,000.00
Public Works Dept.:
-Vacuum/Jetter Truck $180,000.00
-Tractor Backhoe $ 75,000.00
-Front-End Loader, Wing $100,000.00
and Plow
Total cost within the CIP is $728,000 of which $180,000 is to
be appropriated from the Sewer and Water Fund, $150,000
to $165,000 from the Equipment Fund with the remaining
balance to be covered by the sale of Equipment Certificates.
DISCUSSION:
Staff has contacted various vendors to verify cost estimates
to insure that the City's issuance of Equipment Certificates
would not exceed this amount. No tax increase will occur
because the Equipment Certificates issued in 1991 will be

satisfied at years end. These certificates would simply take
the place of the old ones. Staff would propose that
Advertisement take place June 24, 1995, with a bid opening
scheduled for July 18, 1995. Assuming that bids fall within
projections, the request to authorize Equipment Certificates
in the amount of $400,000 would be scheduled for the
August 7, 1995, City Council meeting.
ALTERNATIVES:
The alternatives are as follows:
1. Approve the Resolution ordering an Advertisement for
Bid with a bid opening date of July 18" 1995 at 10:00
A.M.
2. Table this item for a specific reason.
3. Deny the project at this time.
RECOMMENDA TION:
Approval of the Resolution would be appropriate.

RESOLUTION APPROVING
ORDERING ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS FOR
CITY EQUIPMENT FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT,
PARKS DEPARTMENT AND PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS:
the City Council approved on June 19, 1995, the request to
Advertise Bids for City equipment for the Fire Department, Parks
Department and the Public Works Department, and
WHEREAS:
the City Council approved the Advertisement for Bids for the
following equipment:
Fire Department:
Pumper Fire Truck
Parks Department:
60 HP Tractor, Dump Truck
with Plow, Wing, Box and
Sander, 16' Turf Mower
Public Works Department:
Vacuum/Jetter Truck, Tractor
Backhoe, Front-End Loader,
Wing and Plow
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE,
MINNESOTA, that:
1. Such plans and specifications, a copy of which is
attached hereto and made a part of hereof, are hereby
approved.
2. The City Manager shall prepare and cause to be inserted
in the official paper and in the Construction Bulletin an
advertisement for bids upon the making of such
improvement under such approved plans and
specifications. The advertisement shall be published not
less than 21 days prior to bid opening, shall specify the
work to be done, shall state that bids will be opened, and

that all bids will be received by the City until 10:00 A.M.
on July 18, 1995, at which time they will be publicly
opened at City Hall by the City Engineer.
No bids will be considered unless sealed and filed with
the City Manager and accompanied by a cash deposit,
cashier's check, bid bond, or certified check payable to
the City of Prior Lake for five (5) percent of the amount of
such bid.
3. The City reserves the right to reject any and all bids for
any reason as determined solely by the City.
