BRET WOODSON, RECREATION SUPERVISOR
RECOGNITION OF DANCE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS WHO
WILL BE COMPETING IN NATIONALS.
JUNE 19, 1995
The Dance Program offered through the Parks and Recreation
Department is proud to announce that forty (40) of its participants,
representing six different classes, will be competing in the
"Statewide Nationals Dance Competition." The event will be held
on June 23-25 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The dancers range in age
from ten to sixteen. They qualified for Nationals by placing high
in the Regional competitions.
This year marks the first year that the City of Prior Lake Parks and
Recreation Department's Dance Program has participated in formal
dance competitions with other dance studios. The competitions
give the dancers an opportunity to see first hand how their skills
match up with other dancers in their age group.
The dancers are led by the dance program director, Lisa Conlin.
She has been the program director for the past two seasons and
does a tremendous job with all the dancers. It was Lisa's idea to
enter into the competitions to give the dancers a chance to
participate and compete against dancers from all over the country.
The dancers compete as a class and not individually, so teamwork
is essen tial.
The program director and all the dancers are really excited about
their upcoming opportunity. Lisa Conlin, the program director is
present tonight along with some of the dancers who will be
competing.
Because this is a city sponsored recreation program, I wanted to
make sure that the council was aware of the National competition
that the dancers will be competing in.
No action is required on this presentation, only an
acknowledgement and "go luck" wish by the council would be
in order. (( I
