STAFF AGENDA REPORT DATE: 4U FRANK BOYLES, CITY MANAGER CONSIDER APPROVAL 3.2 INTOXICATING MALT LIQUOR LICENSE AND FEE WAIVER FOR LAKEFRONT DAYS JULY 17,1995 AGENDA: PREPARED BY: SUBJECT: BACKGROUND: This year Lakefront Days is scheduled for Saturday, August 5, 1995 at City Hall. Historically, Lakefront Days have included a beer tent which provides the opportunity for adults to socialize and relax as part of the festivities. A band typically provides entertainment. This agenda item requests City Council approval for the 3.2 Intoxicating Malt Liquor License and fee waiver for this event. DISCUSSION: This year the Prior Lake Athletics for Youth (PLAY) have made application for the 3.2 temporary liquor license. PLAY will be providing volunteers to operate the beer tent during the course of the day. They will also pay for the insurance, beer, electricity and police officer associated with this operation. This fundraising effort will provide that 80% of the profits are retained by PLAY and 20% to the Chamber of Commerce to defray other expenses associated with Lakefront Days. Since this is a community wide event, PLAY is requesting that the City approve the malt liquor license and waive the $25 fee. They have also agreed to provide dram shop insurance as a condition of approval of the license prior to the event. ISSUES: The Council should determine whether it wishes to continue to provide for the beer tent as part of Lakefront Days and waive the associated fees. ALTERNATIVES: Council has the following alternatives: 1. Approve a 3.2 Intoxicating Malt Liquor License and fee waiver for PLAY for Lakefront Days. 2. Disapprove the request either for the license or fee waiver. RECOMMENDATION: Alternative #1 AGN717B.DOC 16200 Eagle Creek Ave., Prior Lake, Minnesota 55372-1714 / Ph.
