CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE: January 11, 2016
AGENDA #: 6A
PREPARED BY: MARK ELLIOTT, POLICE CHIEF
PRESENTED BY: MARK ELLIOTT
AGENDA ITEM: POLICE OFFICER MAUREEN O’HEHIR RETIREMENT
PRESENTATION: The City Council has had a tradition of recognizing employees that have
retired after many years of service for the city. Officer Maureen O’Herir
retired this past November after 19 years of service.
Maureen served as an officer in the patrol division throughout her career,
but she also handled many additional duties including the crime prevention
coordinator organizing neighborhood watch clubs and Night to Unite
coordinator, organizing many neighborhood block parties. She was a child
seat specialist and instructed countless parents on how to properly install
their child seats in their vehicles, but perhaps she was best known for her
time served as the departments DARE instructor and School Resource
Officer.
In these roles Officer O’Herir developed a personal relationship with so many
youth in the community and used that relationship to teach the lessons of
responsibility, tolerance, and positive self-worth to more than one
generation.
Maureen will long be known as the friendly, approachable police officer that
was there to help and guide the youth of today and the responsible adults of
tomorrow.
The Mayor will present Maureen with the city Sailboat Plaque and thank her
for her service.
Council members are welcome to offer the officers their best wishes as part
of this agenda item.
