HomeMy WebLinkAbout6B Police Officer Investiture Ceremony Report 4646 Dakota Street SE Prior Lake, MN 55372 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT MEETING DATE: January 11, 2016 AGENDA #: 6B PREPARED BY: MARK ELLIOTT, POLICE CHIEF PRESENTED BY: MARK ELLIOTT AGENDA ITEM: POLICE OFFICER, INVESTITURE CEREMONY JAKE SNYDER, NICHOLAS ELENZ, JONATHAN CASSMAN PRESENTATION: The City Council has started a tradition of swearing in new police and fire officers who are joining the city departments. Tonight, Mayor Hedberg will swear in the three newest Police Officers; Jake Snyder, Nick Elenz, and Jon Cassman. Minnesota Statutes Section 358.10 entitled “Officials May Administer, when.” States: (a) All persons holding office under any law of this state, or under the charter or ordinances of any municipal corporation thereof, including judges and clerks of election, and all committee members, commissioners, trustees, referees, appraisers, assessors, and all other authorized or required by law to act or report upon any matter of fact, have the power to administer oaths they deem necessary to the proper discharge of their respective duties. Police Chief Mark Elliott will introduce the officers, then the Mayor will administer the Oath, ask for comments from the Officers, and then recess the meeting temporarily to allow time for pictures and congratulations. Jake is a graduate of Bemidji State University, with a degree in Criminal Justice. Jake comes to us from Hutchinson PD where he has worked since 2013 and from Williston North Dakota before that. Nicholas is a graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Nicholas’ past work experience includes working as a security guard. Jonathan is a graduate of Normandale Community College with a degree in Law Enforcement. He comes to us from the Scott County Sheriff Department where he has been a deputy since 2011. Prior to that he was a CSO in Savage and is a veteran of the United States Air Force. Each of these officers will spend the next 12 weeks in the field training program and will then be assigned to the patrol division. Council members are welcome to offer the officers their best wishes as part of this agenda item. A copy of the oath of office is attached. OATH OF OFFICE I do solemnly swear That I will support the Constitution of the United States, The Constitution of the State of Minnesota, And the Ordinances of the City of Prior Lake, And that I will faithfully perform And discharge the duties of Police Officer.
