Dear Mr.Loney, /s ovat/'/A/ /e/o/+-4-. This letter is being sent to discuss our typical engineered sections for the segmental retaining wall at the 16177 Visionary Heights Cr.NW project in Prior Lake,Minnesota. This design is based on a wall layout provided by you on May 19,2012. I understand that the Versa-Lok retaining wall system proposed for this project will abut the existing house near the northeast corner. The wall will be about 35 feet long and will have a maximum exposed height of 7 feet. A 6 to 12 inch minimum embedment depth as indicated on the typical sections should be maintained for the wall. A level slope will be present at the top of the wall. A 3:1 slope may be present at the bottom of the wall. A 200-psf traffic surcharge load was designed for at the top of the wall to account for parked vehicles. No other surcharge or groundwater loads have been designed for the wall. The attached typical sections should be referenced for the appropriate wall section height. Special note should be made of the wall embedment depth and the geosynthetic fabric(geogirid)length as measured from the front face of the wall. Refer to Versa-Lok Retaining Wall Systems Standard Specs for installation information and details. The design of the wall system assumes the follow'. - Soil conditions: Sandy Clay, friction angledegrees, unit weight of 120.0 lb/ft3 - Allowable soil bearing capacity=2,000 ps'= 1 ) - 200-psf surcharge loads behind the wall - Level slope at top;3:1 at bottom - Minimum embedment depth=6"-12" V e-1 as noted c-i3't Tl-t 'S® 1 L- - Block Type:Versa Lok 6"Standard NAL 5() DCL-srAe .- - Geosynthetic Fabric Type:Versa-Grid 3.0 LICENSED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS HOME&BUILDING INSPECTIONS STRUCTURAL EVALUATIONS ASSOCIATION RESERVE/TRANSITION STUDIES RESI DENTIAUCOMMERCIAL RETAINING WALL DESIGN&EVALUATIONS 16177 Visionary Heights Cr.NW,Prior Lake,Minnesota May 24,2012 Page 2 of 2 Direct all surface drainage away from the wall. The wall design was performed using the design guidelines presented in the third edition of the"Design Manual for Segmental Retaining Walls" (DMSRW)published by NCMA in 2009. If soil conditions, proposed wall layouts,or other design parameters vary from that assumed,a revised analysis may be needed. Please call me if you have any questions or need more information.
