HomeMy WebLinkAbout6B New Officers Investiture Ceremony4646 Dakota Street SE Prior Lake, MN 55372 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT MEETING DATE: April 11, 2016 AGENDA #: PREPARED BY: 6B MARK ELLIOTT, POLICE CHIEF PRESENTED BY: MARK ELLIOTT AGENDA ITEM: POLICE OFFICER, INVESTITURE CEREMONY PRESENTATION: The City Council has started a tradition of swearing in new police officers who are joining the city department. Tonight, Mayor Hedberg will swear Rebecca Evers and Benjamin Erickson in as the newest police Officers. Minnesota Statutes Section 358.10 entitled “Officials May Administer, when.” States: (a) All persons holding office under any law of this state, or under the charter or ordinances of any municipal corporation thereof, including judges and clerks of election, and all committee members, commissioners, trustees, referees, appraisers, assessors, and all other authorized or required by law to act or report upon any matter of fact, have the power to administer oaths they deem necessary to the proper discharge of their respective duties. Police Chief Mark Elliott will introduce the officers, then the Mayor will administer the Oath, ask for comments from the Officers, and then recess the meeting temporarily to allow time for pictures and congratulations. Officer Rebecca Evers comes to us from Mystic Lake Security Department where she was a supervisor. Rebecca is a Southwest Minnesota State University - Marshal graduate and has prior experience with the Shakopee Police Explorer post and the Plymouth police reserves. Officer Ben Erickson comes to us from the Minnesota Air National Guard, where he has served for the past 6 years. He is a graduate of Minnesota State University – Mankato. Both officers started on April 4th and will spend the next 12 weeks in the field training program and will then be assigned to the patrol division. These two officer represent the 5th and 6th new officer hired by the department in the past year with one of them filling the last vacant open retirement position and one filling the additional officer authorized by the city council for an April 1st start date. Council members are welcome to offer the officers their best wishes as part of this agenda item.
