AUTHORIZING THE PREPARATION OF PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A
COMMUNITY PARK/ATHLETIC COMPLEX ON THE BUSSE
PROPERTY.
DISCUSSION:
Historv
The 1997 Parks and Library Referendum included funding for the
purchase and development of a CommuQity Park! Athletic Complex.
At the February 1, 1999 meeting the City Council authorized the
purchase of the 38.4 acres of land which was owned by Bill and
Carole Busse. This property is located on Mushtown Road and
adjacent to The Pond's Park (see attached map). The intention is to
develop this property into youth athletic fields including soccer,
football, and baseball/softball (see attached concept plan). There is
also room for a future concession stand and bathroom building, picnic
shelter, and playground area.
At the January 20, 1998 meeting the City Council authorized entering
into contract with Brauer and Associates to provide design,
engineering, and architectural services for the redevelopment of
Lakefront Park and the Community Park! Athletic complex.
Current Circumstances
We have a signed purchase agreement with the Busse's and the
closing date for the property is scheduled for the week of April
13,1999.
Conclusion
We hope to bid this project later this spring and begin work this
summer. We are still in search of another 40 to 50 acres of land to
build our adult fields.
ISSUES:
Even though the original concept was to build one 80-100 acre
Community Park! Athletic Complex Brauer and Associates has agreed
that though we will be duplicating some of their services they have
agreed that there will be no additional fees to design two separate
facilities.

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PREPARATION OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS
FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMMUNITY PARK/ATHLETIC COMPLEX ON THE
BUSSE PROPERTY.

WHEREAS,
On February 25, 1998 the citizens of Prior Lake passed a referendum
which included the development of a Community Park! Athletic
Complex.
WHEREAS,
Preliminary conceptual design work has been completed and it is now
time to prepare plans and specifications, and
WHEREAS,
Brauer and Associates is under contract with the City of Prior Lake to
prepare the plans and specifications, and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PRIOR LAKE, that
Brauer and Associates is authorized to prepare plans and specifications for the development of a
Community Park! Athletic Complex on the Busse property.
