DISCUSSION: Introduction: The Police Department requests the Council's approval to order a squad car through the State Cooperative Purchasing contract. Through this contractual agreement the State prepares specifications which reflect the needs of the police agencies and solicits bids for their procurement. Once the bid is awarded, the participating cities purchase their vehicles using the State bid pricing. Superior Ford, in Plymouth, has received the government bid for the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. FINANCIAL IMPACT: History: A Prior Lake Police Department squad was involved in an accident on May 13, 2005, at Duluth St. and Co. Rd. 21. The driver of the other vehicle pulled out from the stop sign and struck the squad car on the front passenger side. The squad was a 2003 Crown Victoria and was totaled as a result of the accident. The 2005 Crown Victoria is $20,514.00. The City should recover the value of the totaled squad car (approximately $10,500.00) from the other driver's insurance company. ALTERNATIVES: (1) Adopt Resolution OS-XX authorizing the purchase of the squad using the State Cooperative Purchasing contract. (2) Deny approval and direct further action.
