PRESENTED BY: MARK ELLIOTT, POLICE CHIEF
AGENDA ITEM: PRESENTATION ON MONTHLY POLICE REPORTING CHANGES
PRESENTATION: The Police Department provides monthly police reports and a yearly
presentation to the City Council during a work session in July. That report
is based on final statistical numbers as reported to the FBI. The report has
traditionally had yearly comparisons to past years as well as to other
comparable cities. A similar report will be delivered this July once the final
2016 report from the Minnesota BCA and FBI come out mid-year.
This presentation will provide a brief recap of 2016 statistical information with
a look at the changes from the county wide transition to a new Records
Management System (RMS), which occurred in July.
The new RMS uses some different call classifications and is in general more
comprehensive in recording activities the officers perform, so the monthly
and annual reports as well as comparisons will look different from years past.
I would like to provide the city council with a brief overview of this new
reporting format.
