CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE: MARCH 13, 2017
AGENDA #: 6A
PREPARED BY: MARK ELLIOTT, POLICE CHIEF
PRESENTED BY: MARK ELLIOTT
AGENDA ITEM: POLICE SERGEANT PROMOTION CEREMONY
PRESENTATION: The position of Sergeant is a very important position in the police
department. Sergeants are the first line supervisors responsible for
overseeing the patrol operations around the clock. They offer direction to
the officers and act as a resource to coach, train, direct, and assist the
officers with their work. They are an important part of the city management
team in implementing policy and directing service delivery.
Over the past few months an extensive testing process was used to select
a new sergeant within the police department. The process involved testing,
interviews and leadership and management assessments.
Officer Rick Denmark finished as the top candidate and was promoted to the
rank of Sergeant on March 5th. This agenda item is to recognize Sergeant
Denmark for his accomplishment.
Sergeant Denmark has been with the Prior Lake Police Department for 15
years and has worked as a patrol officer, trainer, swat team leader and
detective. Prior to joining the Prior Lake team, he worked for several other
departments.
Chief Elliott will call Sergeant Denmark up to the podium with him and
introduce him and say a few words.
Council members are welcome to offer the sergeant their best wishes as part
of this agenda item.
