The incident case reports listed are just a sampling of the 24 crime index categories included in the Uniform Crime
Report and selected call classifications as requested by the City Council for tracking, therefore the totals of the
selected categories will not add up to the total number of incidents shown on the last line above.
As explained previously, the Police Department went to a new records system in July 2016 and statistical categories
are tracked differently than before. In order to provide a closer comparison to last year, traffic stops are included in
the total incidents. Previously they were not in the old RMS system, or in this report.
*The category of Disorderly Conduct/ Disturbing the Peace is also categorized differently in the new sys tem with
subcategories also included whereas previously they were not. For that reason, the percent increase year to date is
not shown.
**Also new for 2017 on the monthly statistics are the categories of Medicals, and Mental Health calls. This was
information requested by the City Council to be added to the report.
New as of April, were “heat maps” as requested by council, and now we are able to provide them through the new
RMS system and additional crime mapping software. Additionally public access to crime maps was rolled out in June.
Links to the crime maps are provided on the police department webpage and we are doing extensive marketing of
the tool available on www.communitycrimemap.com
A significant number of the criminal damage to property calls were for Graffiti which was reported in many
of the city parks, as well as on private property too. There has been a significant amount of time put into
the investigation but no suspects have been caught.
