a. EDAC Commercial Area Liaison Business Visits
EDAC Members: discussed the number of completed visits and the need to complete a commercial area liaison
report for the EDA. The EDAC had a goal of contacting every brick and mortar business in 2016 and althou gh
every business has not been contacted the committee felt the report should be prepared and include the visits
completed in 2016. All members who have not entered their business visits into Dropbox should do so as soon
as possible.
EDAC Members: reviewed commercial area liaison assignments because the committee lost a few of its
members including Choudek, Voreis and Brazier. Three EDAC members offered to serve as commercial area
liaisons; Rosenfeld was assigned to Deerfield/Welcome, Martin was assigned to the Village Commerce area and
Petschl was assigned to the Downtown.
McCabe: said staff will email the commercial liaisons a survey and the information gathered related to number
of visits, liaison comments, common themes from the business owners, etc. will be used in the report to the EDA.
EDAC Members: felt the report to the EDA should include recommendations or key findings.
b. Outreach & Marketing Subcommittee
Prchal: informed the EDAC that the Outreach and Marketing subcommittee met to discuss strategies to contact
and inform local businesses, including through social media, letters, emails, etc.; and to begin planning for a
future Business Mixer event (to be renamed), possibly in the fall of 2017.
EDAC Members: supported hosting a business mixer event in the fall of 2017 and asked city staff to request
funding from the EDA at a future meeting. Henry, Martin, Carroll, Briggs and Erbaugh volunteered to serve on
the Business Mixer subcommittee.
EDAC Members: requested Dave Elbon, City of Prior Lake Communications Coordinator, attend the next EDAC
meeting to review communication and social media strategies.
EDAC Members: discussed whether the City of Prior Lake or individual commercial liaisons should host
Facebook pages for their specific commercial areas.
c. 2017 Goals
McCabe: highlighted the 2017 EDAC Goals which were approved by the City Council during their January 9,
2017 meeting, and include:
➢ Expand upon the Commercial Area Liaison program with increased outreach by scheduling small group
discussions or workshops with targeted areas of the business community to; (i) clearly communicate
information to business owners; (ii) ensure material about planned or proposed projects is easily accessible;
(iii) listen and report on business concerns; and (iv) provide an opportunity for business owners to engage
in a constructive conversation about the future of Prior Lake.
➢ Focus on building collaboration between businesses, advise businesses regarding outside support
organizations such as the First Stop Shop, Open to Business or RiverSouth and be prepared to work
cooperatively and collaboratively to support newly elected and appointed officials.
➢ Create an EDAC subcommittee to establish goals and develop implementation strategies to encourage and
promote the business climate, collaboration opportunities and business expansion in Prior Lake with the use
of technology and social media.
Other goals or objectives which were discussed, included; building upon and improving the commercial liaison
