What’s Under My Street Utility Improvements Proposed Utility Improvements •Sanitary Sewer: Replace 8” VCP with new PVC pipe, re-route force main. •Water Main: Replace existing with 8” PVC •Storm Sewer: Replacement and extension of storm sewer system Watermain Existing •Constructed in 1972 •8” Cast Iron Pipe (CIP) Proposed •Replace 8” CIP with 8” PVC •Replace existing water services to the Right-of-way •Replace curb stops •Replace hydrants •Replace gate valves. Construction Impact •Temporary water service •Water shutdowns •Planned water shutdowns will be noticed. •Unplanned shutdowns can happen without notice. Sanitary Sewer Existing •Constructed in 1971 •8” Vitrified Clay Pipe (VCP) •6” Cast Iron Pipe (CIP) Forcemain Proposed •Replace 8” VCP with 8” PVC •Replace existing sanitary sewer services to the Right-of-way •Replace manholes •Replace and re-route 6” forcemain. •Sewer services will be replaced to right-of-way. Construction Impact •Road will be torn up with 10-14’ excavations for pipe installation. •Service replacement can get beyond right-of-way and into front yards with excavation. Forcemain Replacement Existing •6” Cast Iron Pipe (CIP) Forcemain •Currently is pumped South to the intersection of Bluff Heights Trail and Franklin Trail •Has capacity to accommodate approximately 30-50 additional homes. Proposed •Replace the existing 6” forcemain with an 8” forcemain. •Re-route an 8” forcemain North to the Edgewood School entrance and Franklin Trail. •This will add capacity to accommodate 300 additional homes. •Pumps will be upgraded in the future as additional homes are added. Construction Impact •$180,900 addition to the project. •Requires boring under CSAH 44. Forcemain Replacement WSB conducted a sanitary sewer study in 2014. Capacities of the Franklin Trail and Credit River lift stations were evaluated for future development and incorporating existing homes on well and septic. Storm Sewer Existing •Constructed in 1970’s •Reinforced concrete pipe Proposed •Due to the proposed road alignment the storm sewer will have to be replaced. •Replace pipe •Replace manholes •Add storm water management structures as necessary. Construction Impact •Road will be torn up with 4-8’ excavations for pipe and structure installation.
