The police department has been using the LETG Record Management system for over a year now and comparisons year to year are now reported in the same system, so the comparisons should be vastly similar given the information is gathered and reported in the same system for each category. Heat maps as requested by council, are able to be provided through the new RMS system and additional crime mapping software. Additionally, public access to crime maps was rolled out in June of 2017. Links to the crime maps are provided on the police department webpage and at www.communitycrimemap.com Calls for service for the month of January were up over last month and over January of last year as well. Officers were kept busy, and investigators as well as they investigated a shooting from December that took hundreds of hours and assistance from several agencies to identify a nd apprehend the two responsible. The investigation uncovered 13 related crimes in 7 communities 5E in 3 counties that were all tied to the male suspect. The suspect was charged, and the gun involved recovered. The department also spent considerable time planning for super bowl related activities.
