The police department has been using the LETG Record Management system for over a year now and comparisons year to year are now reported in the same system, so the comparisons should be vastly similar given the information is gathered and reported in the same system for each category. Heat maps as requested by council, are able to be provided through the new RMS system and additional crime mapping software. Additionally, public access to crime maps was rolled out in June of 2017. Links to the crime maps are provided on the police department webpage and at www.communitycrimemap.com Calls for service for the month of February were up over February of last year. Officers were kept busy at the beginning of the month with Super Bowl related activities. The department provided approximately 500 additional hours of police service during the four days leading up to the Super 5E Bowl. About 100 of those hours were from officers from outside of Prior Lake contracted to assist in filling the need. Overall the events ran smooth and there were very few problems reported. The police department also coordinated and ran the Polar Plunge on Prior Lake on February 17th. The event ran smoothly with assistance from other Scott County law enforcement agencies, as well as Prior Lake and Mdewakanton fire departments. The event had 567 participants and hundreds of supporters cheering them on and raised over $170,000 for Special Olympics athletes.
