Prior Lake, MN 55372-1714 MEETING DATE: AGENDA #: PREPARED BY: AGENDA ITEM: DISCUSSION: H:\ELECTIONlAgcndajudge apI.doc CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT SEPTEMBER 19, 2005 5H Ralph Teschner, Finance Director CONSIDER APPROVAL OF ELECTION JUDGE APPOINTMENTS FOR 2005 GENERAL ELECTION Introduction The upcoming election on Tuesday, November 8,2005 will consist of a general citywide election for the following offices: CITY Mayor Council members - four year term (2) Council members - two year term (1) SCHOOL DISTRICT #719 Board members (3) As part of the election process, the City Council must authorize the appointment of election judges to conduct the Election Day activities. The General Election will be a joint effort between the City and School District, with city staff coordinating the process. Similarly, the cost of the election will be shared evenly between our two jurisdictions. For information purposes all precincts with the exception of Precinct #7 are located within Prior Lake School District 719. For the most part the portion lying north of CSAH 42 of Precinct #7 lies within Shakopee School District #720 and these voters receive ballots relating only to ISD #720 in addition to city council elections. Total registered voter count is presently 12,410. Each precinct will be staffed with 5 election judges. Within the precincts, there is relative party balance as required by election law. The polls shall be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The judges will report to their appropriate precinct location one hour prior to the poll openings for set-up preparation. Their compensation shall be $8.00 per hour as approved within this year's operating budget. ISSUES: As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2005 (the deadline for filing), the following candidates have filed: MAYOR: COUNCILMEMBER (2 yr.) (1 position) COUNCILMEMBER (4 yr.)
