Prior Lake, MN 55372-1714 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT MEETING DATE: AGENDA #: PREPARED BY: September 19, 2005 SA Nathan Oster, Communications Coordinator AGENDA ITEM: COMMUNICATIONS UPDATE: CABLE TV AND WEBSITE DISCUSSION: Prior Lake will achieve its 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan if people are aware of and are actively involved in their community's plans and partnerships. This active participation is necessary to make great accomplishments happen. Earlier this year, the City Council endorsed a communication plan for 2006, calling for a comprehensive, multi-media approach for sharing information with residents. The purpose of this report is to update you on cable television efforts thus far: 1) City Council and Planning Commission: Meetings are taped and rebroadcast 5 to 7 times each week on PL TV-15. The Prior Lake/Spring Lake Watershed District is conducting its meetings in this room, and we are working with them to begin televising those meetings. Finally, our long-range plan is still to begin broadcasting both PAC and LAC meetings. 2) City Council Wrapup: We've taped 15 episodes, each featuring the City Manager, Mayor and one of the City Council members. This summer, we began taking the show on the road. To date, we have showcased Edelweiss, Village Market, South Lake Village, Lakefront Park, Captain Jack's, Keystone Communities, Prior Lake Rotary Gateway, and the Prior Lake Maintenance Center. Future stops include City Perks, Lakefront Plaza and Creekside. 3) Inside City Hall: By the end of this week, we will have taped, edited and produced 30 episodes of Inside City Hall on a diverse array of topics: PS/CH Site Selection, Annexation, ISO 719 Referendum, Scott County Historical Society, Youth Sports Organizations, Joint Training Facility, PS/CH Update, Comp Plan Update, City Financial Outlook, Resident Survey Pl. 1 & Pl. 2, Community Development Report, All About Valuation, PS/CH Update, PW: Everywhere You Look, Capital Improvement Program, Building a Strategic Plan, Tour of the SMSC, Hook, Line and Sinker Exhibit, PS/CH Update, Lake Safety, Methamphetamine, Tour of the SMSC, What's New in Recreation, Boat Access Improvements, Water Update, Fall Community Fest, 2006 Budget & PS/CH Update. 4) Special Programming: Outside of those programs, we have also taped several community events (Memorial Day Parade, City Hall Commemoration, Lakefront Days Parade, How to Build a Deck Seminar, Intro to Shoreland Revegetation) and special programs (Spotlight on SCALE, Lakefront Days Highlights). Two additional communications notes. The first edition of the revamped Wavelength city newsletter will be inserted in the Sept. 24 issue of the Prior Lake American.
