Current Circumstances As part of the election process, the City Council must authorize the appointment of election judges to conduct election day activities. The polling places for the eight (8) voting precincts are located as follows, along with their current registered voter count: Precinct Location Registered Voters #1 Prior Lake City Hall 1,888 4646 Dakota Street SE #2 St Paul’s Lutheran Church 1,491 5634 Luther Road SE #3 Fire Station #1 2,930 16776 Fish Point Road SE #4 Church of St. Michael 2,701 16311 Duluth Avenue SE #5 Fire Station #2 2,455 3906 Station Place NW #6A Holy Cross Church 1,744 14085 Pike Lake Trail NE #6B Living Hope Lutheran Church 1,453 8600 Horizon Drive, Shakopee #7 Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church 2,113 13760 McKenna Road NW Total Register Voter Count 16,775 Conclusion The polls shall be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. The judges will report to their assigned precinct location one hour prior to the poll opening for set-up preparation. ISSUES Each year, in accordance with the law, we make an effort to provide for a balance between the various political parties in our election judge appointments. This can be complicated both by the political composition of the community as well as the political bent of the persons volunteering to judge. The resolution does not designate the precinct for any judge so that in the event of election judge cancellations, the City may reassign judges to a different precinct in order to maintain party representation to the extent possible. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Judges are paid $11.00, and head judges are paid $14.00 per hour as approved within this year’s operating budget. Judges work approximately 16 hours each on each election day. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Approve a resolution appointing election judges for the August 14, 2018 primary election and the November 6, 2018 general election as part of the consent agenda. 2. Motion and second to remove this item from the consent agenda for additional discussion.
