AGENDA ITEM:
DISCUSSION:
An exciting new era in the city will begin Thursday, Oct. 27 when ground is
broken for the new police station and city hall facilities in downtown Prior Lake.
The ground breaking ceremony, which will include a short program and light
lunch, starts at 12:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend. .
The tentative lineup of speakers includes Mayor Jack Haugen and
representatives of Wold Architects and Engineers as well as Shaw Lundquist,
which is the general contractor for the project. City Manager Frank Boyles and
Police Chief Bill O'Rourke will serve as co-masters of ceremony.
Construction of the new police station and city hall facilities is a critical step in
the city's 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan. In addition to serving as the base of
operations for delivery of essential city services for decades to come, the two
buildings will further efforts to revitalize downtown and, in the case of city hall,
provide additional meeting rooms for local residents and organizations.
Planning for the project dates back more than a decade to an independent
1993 facility needs study, which identified the need to construct a library
resource center, maintenance facility, fire station and city hall and police
station facilities.
The timeline for the project has the police station opening in the fourth quarter
of 2006, and the city hall in the first quarter of 2007 following the removal of
the police annex and construction of a parking lot where the annex is now
located.
To keep residents informed about the project, the city will produce regular
construction updates. To sign up for this electronic newsletter, visit the City of
