CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT

Kelly Meyer, Asst. to the City Manager
INTRODUCTION OF NEW WATER RESOURCES ENGINEER ROSS BINTNER
With the promotion of Steve Albrecht to the Director of Public Works/City Engineer position, we
began to evaluate the workloads that were created by the promotion, what strengths there were
among the current staff, and what opportunities we had to address any needs in the
department. As you know, the City's 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan places a high priority on the
effective management of our natural resources. After some discussion with the staff, we
detennined that water and natural resources would continue to require more and more staff
hours and focus as our community continues to grow. It made sense to add a position directly
focused on that need.
In August 2005, we began to solicit applications for water resources engineer, and after a series
of interviews, offered the position to Ross Bintner. Ross started with the City on November 1 st.
Ross is a Lakeville HS grad and comes to us via the Michigan Technological University where
he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. His previous employment includes
3 years at Bolton & Menk, and 1 + years with the City of Savage where he was responsible for
administering the stann water utility, NPDES pennitting and reporting, and plan review.
Interestingly enough, Steve Albrecht previously supervised Ross at Bolton & Menk.
On a personal note, Ross is married and lives in Eagan. We are very encouraged by the
addition of Ross to our Prior Lake team, and believe he will bring enthusiasm, technical
expertise, great customer service skills, and a commitment to the protection of our natural
resources.
No fonnal action is required.
