DISCUSSION: Introduction
The purpose of this agenda item is to seek City Council authorization to enter into
the City’s standardized contract for the installation of new carpet at Fire Station #1.
History
Each year the City Council adopts the Facilities Management Plan (FMP) which
involves various improvement projects. This project falls within this funding.
The carpet in Fire Station #1 is the original from when the building was
constructed in 1996. The Fire Station not only hosts fire fighter training and
events, various community groups also benefit from this location. This includes
such groups as home owners associations (HOA’s), scouts, townships and
toastmasters. This facility gets a lot of use.
Carpet squares will be installed so that damaged areas can be easily replaced. To
save on costs, staff will move all furniture.
Current Circumstances
The City received two proposals for carpet and installation and the quotes are
listed in the table.
Carpets Plus of Burnsville $24,970.32
Floors on a Roll $31,570.00
Carpets Plus of Burnsville is a reputable company who has years of experience in
carpet installation.
Conclusion
Staff is recommending that City Council accept the quotes and award the project
to Carpets Plus of Burnsville and approve the resolution to authorize the execution
of the City’s Standardized Contract for purchase and installation of carpet at Fire
Station #1.
ISSUES: Considering the magnitude of this project, the City does not have staff to provide
installation of carpet.
