Attract, retain and train a high caliber workforce to ensure high-quality services. PRESENTATION: The City Council has a tradition of formally swearing in new police officers who are joining the city department. Tonight, Mayor Briggs will swear in Beau Johnson as the newest Prior Lake police officer. Minnesota Statutes Section 358.10 entitled “Officials May Administer, when” States: (a) All persons holding office under any law of this state, or under the charter or ordinances of any municipal corporation thereof, including judges and clerks of election, and all committee members, commissioners, trustees, referees, appraisers, assessors, and all other authorized or required by law to act or report upon any matter of fact, have the power to administer oaths they deem necessary to the proper discharge of their respective duties. Police Chief Mark Elliott will introduce the officer, then the Mayor will administer the Oath, ask for comments from the Officer, and then recess the meeting temporarily (for 3-5 minutes) to allow time for pictures and congratulations. Officer Beau Johnson grew up in Savage, attended Prior Lake High School, and is a graduate of Normandale Community College. He has worked as a Deputy for Jackson County Minnesota for the past 6 years. Officer Johnson started on August 27th and will spend the next 12 weeks in the Field Training Program and will then be assigned to the patrol division. Officer Johnson is filling the position vacated by another officer’s resignation from back in February. Council members are welcome to offer the officer their best wishes as part of this agenda item. FINANCIAL IMPACT: This staff position is included in the 2018 Budget.
