HomeMy WebLinkAbout10 01 2018 MVTA PresentationMVTA TRANSIT UPDATE CITY OF PRIOR LAKE –OCT. 1, 2018 1 2 •TRANSIT HISTORY •2005 –Legislative Auditor recommends combining transit providers for cost- effective public transit. •2014 –Prior Lake and Shakopee consolidate transit services by joining MVTA. •About MVTA •175 buses •10,000+ daily boardings •2nd largest transit system in Minnesota by ridership •Substantial growth since 1991 •Provides express and local service throughout Scott and Dakota counties •MVTA is one of several independent bus transportation agencies formed in the late 1980s under state legislation that allowed outer-ring suburbs to "opt-out" of centrally provided transportation services. •MVTA Board Strategic Goal: Explore ways to serve areas within Dakota and Scott counties that are currently under-served or without service. •Meet with member communities to discuss service needs and opportunities. The Technical Work Group (TWG) meets quarterly to collaborate and provide project updates. Through working with this group, MVTA has been plugged into Comprehensive Plan Updates and Development Plan Reviews. 12 OUTREACH EFFORTS MVTA Board strategic plan promotes regular outreach with member agencies Recent outreach efforts include working with Scott County businesses including Amazon, Canterbury Park, Mystic Lake Casino, UPS, and others Collaborating with Transit Link to promote services Outreach at 50-by-30 community gatherings 13 CUSTOMER SURVEY Passenger survey currently underway and available at www.mvta.com. Community Conversation outreach event planned for Prior Lake. 14 35W CONSTRUCTION MVTA PRIORITIES Maintain existing service & trip times Flexible detour routing (I-35W, Hiawatha, I-35E, I-394) Add vehicles by extending retirement Engage riders & community Add recovery time to express services Add capacity to existing Route 460 (Burnsville-Minneapolis) trips Add new Route 416 (Eagan-46th Street LRT) Express Routes 490 and 493 should experience less impact than those on I- 35W corridor 15 STATE FAIR EXPRESS SERVICE MVTA has been transporting close to 100,000 riders on State Fair express service in recent years Service available on weekends and Labor Day from Marschall Road Transit Station 16 New special service to Vikings home games began this season. 17 QUESTIONS?
