History The city council has established various advisory bodies. The advisory bodies range in size from 5-13 members based upon the bylaws of each. According to the bylaws of each advisory committee, individual terms conclude on October 31 of each year; except for the EDA where members term ends December 31. Current Circumstances Existing advisory committee members have been asked to reapply if they desire—especially those who have met the four participation criteria for advisory committee members. New applicants have been recruited as well and interviews have been conducted. Copies of the proposed appointees’ applications are available upon request. Interviews were not conducted for the Citizen Engagement Committee as that committee is full; no terms expiring this year. The Business Engagement Committee has three incumbents’ reappointments by the Economic Development Authority at their October 8, 2018 meeting. Similarly, Technology Village had one incumbent reappointment. Resolutions are attached making appointments to the committees as recommended by the screening teams. Due to the city’s desire to have an inclusive government, we have more advisory bodies than many municipalities. The good news is that Prior Lake Residents continue to want to serve their community through these committees and often serve multiple terms. This year four incumbents who have met the council’s service criteria were reappointed without interview since they have previously demonstrated their capability and interest by their participation. The screening committees believed that such behavior should be rewarded. Some funding is required to support activities of the committees. Generally those funds are included in the General Fund or EDA budgets. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Motion and second as part of the consent agenda to make appointments to advisory committees as recommended herein. 2.Motion and second to remove this item from the consent agenda for additional discussion.
