NEW LOOK FOR CITY'S E-NEWS SERVICE
Subscription list has grown to nearly 500 city residents
Greetings from the City of Prior Lake. With this e-mail today, we are introducing a new look for our
electronic news service, which now supplies information about city programs and services to a
subscriber base of nearly 500 city residents and business owners.
Subscribers should expect to receive much of the same information that has been shared in the past,
but in an easier-to-digest format that requires no linking to websites or .pdf documents. Instead, the
information will be supplied as part of the e-mail communication from us to you, making it even easier
and faster to absorb the information and share feedback with the city via e-mail.
The city's electronic news service is not a new thing. It has been around for the better part of 2 years,
and has been used to circulate news releases, columns, downtown and neighborhood construction
updates, meeting summaries, announcements, cable television listings, and links to new additions on
our Web site.
CITY NEWSWIRE:
Subscribers whose name and e-mail address appear on our City Newswire e-mailing list receive all of
the city's electronic dispatches, including:
. City Council Roundup: Formerly known as the City Current, this publication provides a summary
of the actions taken at each regular meeting of the Prior Lake City Council and is circulated within a
day or two of each meeting.
. Police Station-City Hall Construction Updates (NEW): Learn more about the progress of the
project, which is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2006 (police station) and first
quarter of 2007 (city hall).
. This Week's Meetings & Events (NEW): Find out what's happening on the city meeting and event
slate. Publishes Mondays.
. News Releases: Get the latest news from the city on a wide range of topics, as supplied to media.
. PL TV-15 Listings: Find out what's playing and when on the city's cable access station, PL TV-15.
. Columnists: Read online the columns produced by City Manager Frank Boyles and Mayor Jack
Haugen for the local newspapers.
. News & Announcements: This is a catch-all category that could include invitations to special city
events, public safety announcements, new postings on the website, election night results, and much
more.
INDIVIDUAL LISTS
Residents also have the option to sign up for some of these lists individually. That can be done for:
. City Council Roundup
. PL TV-15 Listings
. Police Station-City Hall Update
. This Week's Meetings & Events
The changes to the city's electronic news service represent the third wave of improvements stemming
from the 2005 Resident Survey and subsequent input received from community stakeholders in the
planning for the new 2030 Vision and Strategic Plan.
In September, the city for the first time ever began publishing its newsletter, the Wavelength, on a
monthly basis as an insert the Prior Lake American. The next month, the city rolled out an expanded
website with twice the number of pages as its predecessor.
For more information about these and other communications initiatives in Prior Lake, please contact
Communications Coordinator Nathan Oster at (952) 447-9804, or e-mail noster@citvofpriorlake.com.
To sign up for the electronic news service, look for the Get Connected box on the city's website,
cityofpriorlake.com.
