INTRODUCTION OF NEW COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICERS
A Community Service Officer is a non-sworn, uniformed position
that performs a supportive service for the police department. In
addition to various administrative responsibilities a Community
Service Officer is responsible for handling property and evidence
according to department policy, finger printing of citizens, the
departments house watch program, assisting the motoring public,
providing first aid as appropriate, as well as other non-
enforcement services for the public. Another important function
handled by the Community Service Officers is that of assisting the
department in the patrol of the many parks in our community.
The 2006 Police Department budget includes funds for two
community service officer positions, each working 25 hours per
week.
Jennifer Beckett is from Shakopee and attends Minnesota State
University at Mankato. She has three years of police reserve
experience with the Columbia Heights Police Department.
Jennifer is a licensed pilot and is currently working on her
helicopter certification.
Jason Rose is a graduate of Rosemount High School and is
presently attending Normandale Community College. Jason
received an honorable discharge after about three years in the U.
S. Army and has been employed in the Security Department at
Mystic Lake Casino since 2001.
