FIRE STATION TWO COMMITTEE
Introduction
The purpose of this agenda item is to share information about proposed Fire
Station Two and the Fire Station Two Building Committee.
History
In the late 1990s, the City updated a Fire Station Study to determine how
many Fire Stations would be needed to serve our community once it is fully
developed. This study predated the annexation agreement. The conclusion
was that at least two stations would be needed. In 1995, Fire Station I was
constructed at Fish Point Road and CR 21. In accordance with the Fire
Station Study recommendations, a second fire station was sited for CR 21 and
Carriage Hills Parkway.
Current Circumstances
Fire Station II has been part of the City's Capital Improvement Program for
numerous years. The 2006-2010 Capital Improvement Program calls for the
construction of this station in 2006. We have been working with Wensmann
Realty who has agreed to donate over an acre of land in the commercial
portion of the Jeffers Pond Development for the construction of it.
Conclusion
At the April 3, 2006, City Council meeting, a PowerPoint presentation will be
shared with the City Council and viewing public in advance of the first meeting
of the Fire Station Two Building Committee. Mayor Haugen and
Councilmember Millar serve on that committee together with Fire Chief Sames,
Assistant Fire Chief Hartmann, Firefighter Kline, Public Works Director
Albrecht and myself.
