16200 Eagle Creek Avenue S.E.

MEETING DATE:
AGENDA #:
PREPARED BY:
CITY COUNCIL AGEN
AGENDA ITEM:
SWEARING IN CEREMONY FOR POLICE OFFICER.
PRESENTATION:
In March 2001, Bill and I initiated a new tradition of conducting a brief swearing
in ceremony as part of the regular City Council meeting. The swearing in
ceremony is a great opportunity for Councilmembers and the general public to
get to know our newest police officers.
Shelly Milton is our newest police officer. For nearly two years, Shelly has
been a secretary in the Prior Lake Police Department. In that capacity, Shelly
has learned a great deal about our community and about our police
department. Prior to working at Prior Lake, Shelly had thirteen years of law
enforcement experience; first as a police secretary in Milaca, seven years as a
dispatcher in Mille Lacs County and Milaca, and six years as a police officer at
the City of Milaca. Shelly, her husband (who is a police officer for the
Metropolitan Airport Commission), and her daughter live in Lakeville.
The ceremony to swear in Shelly Milton consists of the following:
· Police Chief O'Rourke will introduce and provide some background
information about the new police officer.
. The Mayor will administer the following oath to the officer and award her
badge.
. The Mayor will call a recess so the officer can arrange to have her badge
pinned on her uniform by the person of her choice for pictures.
OATH OF OFFICE
I do solemnly swear
that I will support
the constitution of the United States,
the constitution and the laws
of the State of Minnesota,
and the ordinances of the City of Prior Lake,
and that I will faithfully perform
and discharge the duties of police officer
to the best of my ability.
10 help me God.
