Re: Retaining Wall, 24 Unit Building, Lot 1, Block 1, Creekside Estates, Prior Lake, MN
Dear Mike:
Yesterday, I inspected the above premises with you. The attached two drawings along with letter indicate
the location (plan), elevations and specifications for the retaining wall that is to protect the driveway and
curb entry for the lower level of the above building. That retaining wall shall consist of the following:
. Large boulders, approximately 2 ft in average diameter, to be installed over a cut face that ranging from
o to 7 feet in height.
. The lowest row of boulders to be buried at least 2 feet below the lower ground surface and become the
foundation for the upper portion of the wall. The reason for burying the first layer is to stabilize the
upper rows of boulders.
. The face of the boulders should set back at least 20 degrees from the vertical.
· Compaction of the soil behind the boulders shall meet 95 percent of Proctor density.
· The boulders were to be placed on a porous filter mat laid against the prepared cut soil face.
· Horizontal drain tiles to be placed behind the wall an brought to 'daylight' towards the horizontal ends
of the wall.
. No cut face had been installed prior to my visit to the site.
This design presumes that any or all wetland regulations and requirements have been taken care of with the
City of Prior Lake. I will approve the boulder retaining walls when the project is complete. I hereby
certify that this letter report been prepared by me and that I am a duly registered Professional Civil
Engineer under the laws of the State of Minnesota. If you have any further questions or if I can be of
