BUSINESS ENGAGEMENT COMMITTEE AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE: February 28, 2019
AGENDA #: 3.a.
PREPARED BY: Casey McCabe, Community Development Director

The purpose of this agenda item is to discuss the role of the BEC at the first
construction communication event of the season.
History
Road improvement projects will occur on Duluth, TH13 and CH21 in 2019. These
roads are essential to our transportation future and community development but most
certainly will cause short term access issues for area businesses.
MNDOT and Scott County have contracted with Bolton & Menk to provide a Project
Communications Specialist throughout 2019. In addition, the EDA has approved
funding to identify a coordinator/project manager and develop a marketing and
communication plan for construction customer attraction assistance in 2019.
Current Circumstances
The EDA has appointed a subcommittee of volunteers from the EDA, Chamber of
Commerce, City staff, BEC, and business owners in the downtown and South Lake
Village areas to oversee the implementation of the contract and expenditure of funds.
The first construction communication event has been scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on
Thursday, April 11th at Fong’s Event Center.
ISSUES: The BEC should identify topics that should be covered at this initial meeting and
discuss what role the BEC members should play at this meeting.
The BEC will meet once more (March 28) prior to the first communication event on
April 11, 2019.
FINANCIAL
