CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
MEETING DATE: JUNE 3, 2019
AGENDA #: 6A
PREPARED BY: RICK STEINHAUS, FIRE CHIEF
PRESENTED BY: MICHAEL PLANTE, CITY MANAGER
AGENDA ITEM:
FIRE DEPARTMENT AWARDS
GOAL AREA AND
OBJECTIVE:
High-Value City Services
4. Attract, retain and train a high caliber workforce to ensure high-quality services.
PRESENTATION: The Fire Service has a long tradition of holding a badging or pinning ceremony
once an individual completes the required training and fulfills the requirements of a
Probationary Firefighter.
Before a Prior Lake Firefighter is hired, they are simply told that it will not be easy.
The first year is very time consuming and stressful. Not only will they be busy with
Fire Department requirements, but the same busy personal schedule they may
already have doesn’t go away. Becoming a Firefighter is a team effort. Family,
friends, and veteran Firefighters must all support and help a Probationary
Firefighter get to this point.
Tonight, I am extremely proud to recognize nine Prior Lake Firefighters who were
hired May 1, 2018. Each of them has worked extremely hard over the past year to
obtain the required State of Minnesota Firefighter, hazardous material, and
medical responder certifications. All of this was done while attending regular
Department training, responding to emergency calls, and managing their families,
employment and personal responsibilities.
I would like to introduce six of our nine new Firefighters,
Tony Adderley, badge number 153
Brandon Grapper, badge number 155
Nick Haugen, badge number 156
Matthew Jackson badge, number 157
Kevin Micklo, badge number 160
Mike Pientka, badge number 161
Unfortunately, Firefighters Ken Legan, Jason Koski, and Dino Blundetto were
unable to attend this evening. We will hold an in-house ceremony at a later date.
