Minnesota Chapter Statute 429 Process
Chapter 429 gives municipalities the authority to charge special assessments for specific capital
improvements that enhance the property value of a defined area. The municipality may charge
for the costs of an improvement based upon the benefits received.
Example:If a street needs to be widened or repaired, the homes living adjacent to the street will
benefit from the improvement and the City can assess them for this increased value.
