II Jason Wedel Update on City Operations During COVID-19
Jason explained how the City is operation during these tough times.
Sara asked how the police are treating groups of people. They are asking them to leave the
park as necessary.
The fire department has been experimenting with duty crews during the day. That will be
suspended as there really has not been a shift in call volume as was expected with people
staying home.
Public Works has been checking lift stations more frequently as people put items in the
toilet that tend to clog the system. Public works is working with a skeleton crew.
Building inspections are still working but are not going into houses when possible. They are
mostly doing new construction.
Utility Billing is still working on a limited basis.
Dock installers have been permitted to work.
Jason asked if everyone felt there has been enough communications. Sarah felt inundated
with information in general and feels the Newswire is plenty.
Meetings are now being live streamed on the city website.
No seasonal employees will be hired so some services will be reduced like flowers
downtown. Parks will still be mowed.
There are conversations about closing recreation summer events, but the community
garden will remain open.
Jason updates the City Council daily, but they have not had to take any formal action.
Lori mention that they have not been hearing why you aren’t laying off people. It could cost
more to layoff an employee. We did furlough Lesley Young
Pat asked about the VFW. That is still on schedule, but staff will visit the predevelopment
agreement with the Beard Group.
Annette was curious if calls were up? Call volume is up 8% with many more domestics. The
severity of call is less with Mystic Lake closed.
