HomeMy WebLinkAbout05(F) - Approval of Fire Station 1 Generator Purchase Report ITEM: 5F CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT MEETING DATE: June 06, 2022 PREPARED BY: Jake Theisen, Maintenance Superintendent Christine Watson, Public Works Coordinator PRESENTED BY: Andy Brotzler, Public Works Director/City Engineer AGENDA ITEM: Approve Purchase of Generator - Fire Station 1 GOAL AREA High-Value City Services OBJECTIVE: 3. Ensure sufficient resources and staffing to meet service demands. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the purchase of a new generator at Fire Station 1. BACKGROUND: Fire Station 1 is being remodeled this year to accommodate a full-time fire department. The remodel scope of work includes the planned replacement of the generator for the building. The 2022 Equipment CIP includes $65,000 for the purchase of a new generator and two transfer switches. The current generator is 21 years old and is generally considered beyond its recommended useful life. It is located inside the building and provides power to only a portion of the building. The new generator will be located in a separate enclosure outside the building and will provide emergency power to the entire building. It will include updated controls and technology to better serve the Fire Station with emergency power. Staff has received a quote from Ziegler Cat in the amount of $45,300 for the new generator and two transfer switches. Zeigler Cat is a Sourcewell Cooperative Purchasing vendor. The Sourcewell contract is a purchasing contract that fulfills bidding requirements for governmental agencies and assures best pricing available. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The 2022 Equipment CIP includes $65,000 for the purchase of the generator and two transfer switches. The installation and setup costs will be included with the remodel project funding. ALTERNATIVES: 1. Motion and second to approve the purchase of a new generator at Fire Station 1 as part of the consent agenda. 2. Motion and second to remove this item from the consent agenda for additional discussion.
