Does not include the 9,000+ residents in Credit River and Spring Lake Township
Does not include SMSC or demand on services as a result of gaming enterprise
Cities between 29,000-35,000 average 128 FTEs

73 in Police and Public Works
40 paid on-call fire fighters
50 seasonals
City has been on a positive path toward adequate staffing levels
Over last five years, added 6 new FTEs to bring us more in line with similar sized cities

Financial Impact
Cost and funding sources will be estimated into the long-range financial plan
Today’s focus is on the need and rationale for each position request
Discussion on how to pay for positions will occur during the annual budgeting process
Growth slows or economic conditions dramatically change, plan will be amended
Council will determine the addition and timing of any new staff adds

The Plan
- FTE additions reflect the anticipated staffing needs to maintain current service levels as Prior Lake grows
- 16.4 new FTEs from today – most for public safety (12 FTEs)
